Counsellors ask an established set of questions in the same manner and sequence for each client.
Structured Interview
counsellors may have an idea about possible items to address but gear the interview in a unique manner, depending on the client’s needs.
Unstructured interview
Combination of the structured and the unstructured interview formats; certain questions are always asked, but there is room for exploration and additional querries.
Semistructured interview
In an interview, conceptualize client concerns around their:
*Cognitions
*Affect
*Behaviour
*Psysiology
Assessment for Alcohol misuse- CAGE
- Have you felt the need to CUT DOWN?
- Have people ANNOYED you by criticizing your drinking?
- Have you felt bad or GUITY about your drinking?
- Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves EYE OPENER?
Mental Health Exam (MSE- Mental status examinations)
*Appearance, attitude activity
*Mood and affect
*Speech and language
*Thought process, thought content and perception
*Cognition (intellectual functioning – often requires other testing)
*Insight and Judgement
Set Goals- Goals should be:
*Specific
*Measurable
*Achievable
*Relevant
*Time-bound
