What are some ways to conceptualize your client?
- Cognitions (thoughts) - how they view the world
- Affect (mood)- how are they feeling about things
- behavior- avoiding, staying in bed all day
- Physiology- what is happening in the body eg., feeling tight, sweaty palms
What are examples of neurodevelopment disabilities?
ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disorder (impairment in reading, written expressions, or mathematics) and Intellectual disabilities
Note: these disorders would have to show up in early childhood
3 types are: inattentive, hyperactivity, or combination of both
ADHD
symptoms are:
Autism (ASD)
Hallucinations, delusions (grandios , jealous) bizarre content, disorganized speech or behavior, negative symptoms (diminished emotional expression)
Schizophrenia
Manic episode (2 weeks) - decreased sleep, very talkative, risky activities, increased sexual activities.
Major Depression episode (2 weeks) - depressed everyday- diminished interest, weight loss…
(can have a hypo- manic)
Bipolar 1 disorder disorder
No manic episode
Bipolar 2
Worthless cognition, loss of pleasure, weight loss, difficulty concentrating ( 2 weeks), loss of energy
Major Depression disorder
Depressed most days for at least two years
Persistent Depressive Disorder
fear of public places, standing in line, public transit..outside of the house alone - Avoid (Exposure therapy)
Agoraphobia
OCD
Obsessive compulsive disorders
Trauma Related Disorders
- reactive detachment disorder
- Disinhibited social engagement disorder
- Acute Stress disorder
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
- Adjustment Disorder
Somatic Symptom Related Disorders
Symptoms effecting person’s life but can’t find medical reason for the (have been investigated by a doctor) no known cause
preoccupied with having or getting an illness- checking their body
Ilness Anxiety Disorder
No evidence for medical condition- they could have breathing or hearing problems- NOT DELIBERATE
