Chapter 8 - Articulations Flashcards
0
Q
Classification of functional movements?
A
- Synathrosis - immovable
- Amphiarthrosis - slightly movable
- Diarthrosis - very movable
1
Q
What are the different ways to classify articulations/joints?
A
Functional and structural
2
Q
Classification of structural articulations bases on presence/absence of synovial cavity?
A
- Fibrous joints - no synovial cavity held together by fibrous CT
- Cartilage joints - no synovial cavity held together by cartilage
- Synovial joints - held together by articulations capsule
3
Q
What are the types of fibrous joints?
A
- Sutures - between bones of skull (serrated, squamous, plane)
- Syndesmosis - held together by interosseous membrane
- Gomphosis - between teeth and bone, cone shaped
4
Q
What are the types of cartilaginous joints?
A
- Synchondrosis - hyaline cartilage (between first rib and sternum)
- Symphysis - flat disc (vertebrae)
5
Q
What are the synovial joints?
A
- articulations cartilage : covers bone ends (hyaline cartilage)
- articular capsule : sleeve-like structure (fibrous outside, synovial inner)
6
Q
What are factors that affect movement?
A
Fit of bones, ligaments, muscles, apposition of soft body parts
7
Q
What are the types of movements?
A
- Gliding
- Angular - changes in anatomical position
- Rotation - movement of bone around own axis
- Circumspection - distal end moves in a circle
