Chapter 8,9&10 Flashcards
BSI ( body substance isolation)
Use gloves Back up gloves Eyewear
Stridor
High pitched sound generated from partially obstructed airflow in the upper airway
Hoarseness
Voice changes person whose airway is swelling
Snoring
Sound of soft tissue in the upper airway creating impedance of flow in air
OPA ororpharyngeal airway
To keep tongue from blocking airway
NPA ( nasopharyngeal airway)
Nasal airway inserted through the nose into the pharynx
Hypoxia
Insufficient of oxygen in body’s tissues
Adequate breathing
Adult 12-20 per min Child 15-30 per min Infant 25-50 per min Minimum effort chest expansion present and equal
BVM bag valve mask
Handheld device with face mask and self refilling bag 15 liters per min Stay at head when placing
Stoma
Permanent surgical opening in the neck where the patient breathes
Range of PSI in which an oxygen cylinder can be filled
2000-2200 psi
Oxygen cylinders
D- 350 liters of oxygen E- 625 M- 3000 G-5300 H-6900
Lowest amount of PSI required to refill
200psi
Nonrebreather mask
12-15 liters per min Face mask and reservoir bag device the patients air escapes through a valve and is not rebreathed
Nasal cannula
1-6 liters per min Delivers low concentrations of oxygen through two prongs that rest in patients nostrils
Partial rebreather
Same as non rebreather but there is no one way valve in the opening to the reservoir bag
