What is the function of the lymphatic system?
A
- to collect some of the fluid that escapes from the blood capillaries and return it to the circulatory system
- to remove harmful particles from the lymph
- to carry food from the blood to the cells

What are the components of the lymphatic system?
A
- a network of lymph capillaries joined to larger lymph vessels
- lymph nodes, which are located along the length of some lymph vessels

What is the role of the lymphatic system in fighting disease?
A
- lymph entering the lymph nodes may contain particles that are harmful
- phagocytic cells called macrophages destroy these particles through phagocytosis
- projections from the phagocytosis end up in a cell where is is destroyed by enzymes
