Apartheid
Process by which a State breaks down through conflicts among it’s ethnicities
Balkanization
A small geographic area that could not successfully be organized into one or more stable states because it was inhabited by many ethnicities with complex, long standing antagonisms toward each other
Balkanized
The dramatic increase in Hispanic population in a given neighborhood; referring to barrio, The Spanish word for neighborhood
Barriozation
A process by which real estate agents convince white property owners to sell their houses at low prices because of fear that black families will soon move into the environment
Blockbusting
In the context of arranged marriages of India, disputes over the price to be paid (the dowry) by the brides family to the grooms father have, in some cases, led to the bride’s death
Dowry death
Process in which a more powerful ethnic group forcibly remove a less powerful one in order to create an ethnicity homogeneous region
Ethnic cleansing
Identity with a group of people that share distinct physical and mental traits as a product of common heredity and cultural traditions
Ethnicity
Social differences between men and women (rather than anatomical, biological differences)
Gender

Identity
Constructing an identity by first defining the “other” and then defining ourselves as “not the other”

Process by which new immigrants to a city move to and dominate or take over areas occupied by older immigrant groups

State that contains two or more ethnic groups with traditions of self determination that agree to coexist peacefully by recognizing each other as distant nationalities

Loyalty and devotion to a particular nationality
