Chapter 7- Optometric instrumentation part 2 (2) Flashcards
What is a slit lamp?
A big magnifier that allows you to look at the external eye and the anterior eye in more detail.
Just like the direct ophthalmoscope, what does a slit lamp also have?
Filters
What are the advantages of volk?
1- Larger field of view
2- 3D image
3- Not affected by refractive error like direct ophthalmoscope
What are the disadvantages of volk?
1- Image is upside down and back to front
2- Some patients may find the light too bright
3- Not portable
What are the properties of a binocular indirect headmounted?
- 3D image
- Image inverted, laterally reversed
- Large FOV
- Portable
- Patient will have to have drops to be dilated
What is fundus imaging?
When a fundus camera takes a picture of the retina at the back of the eye.
What are the advantages of fundus photography?
1- Early detection of ocular diseases
2- Quick and easy to use
What are the disadvantages of fundus photography?
1- No 3D image can be produced
2- Can get artefacts forming on the image if it has been exposed
3- Not portable
4- Expensive
What is the peek retina?
Attaches to the back of your phone camera and is able to take a picture of the back of the eye (retina)
What are the advantages of peek retina?
1- Can be used in remote environments
2- Portable
3- Easy to use
What are the disadvantages of peek retina?
1- Needs a dilated pupil
2- Can only really capture the optic disc
3- Question marks over the clarity of image
What is an optomap?
A big machine where a patient will push one eye right up against the eyepiece and it would take the picture of the back of the eye.
What are the advantages of an optomap?
1- Wide FOV
2- Easy to perform
What are the disadvantages of an optomap?
1- Can be expensive
