Wetland
Ecosystem that is periodically underwater.
Plankton
Organisms that can’t swim so they drift with the current of the ocean.
Nekton
Free swimming organisms such as Fish and Whales
Benthos
Bottom dwellers such as mussels, worms, and barnacles
Littoral zone
Zone in lakes and rivers which has the most abundance of life.
Benthic zone
Bottom of a pond or lake, bottom dwellers and decomposers live here.
Eutrophication
An increase in the amount of nutrients in an ecosystem.
Estuary
An area in freshwater mixes with salt water from the ocean.
Salt Marsh
In Estaurys there is a mineral rich mud, serves as a nursery for fish and reptiles.
Mangrove Swamp
Dense growths of Mangrove trees in swampy areas.
Barrier Island
Run parallel to sandy shores, helps protect ecosystem against whether and other natural problems.
Coral Reef
Limestone ridges built by tony coral animals, inhabited by Coral Polyps and the algae that live inside them.
