Surface Water
Fresh Water on earths land surface.
River System
A flowing network of rivers that move across land.
Watershed
The area of land that is drained by the river.
Groundwater
Water that is found beneath the earths surface in the spaces of sediment and rock formations.
Aquifer
An underground formation that contains ground water.
Porosity
The percentage of total volume of a rock that has spaces.
Permeability
The ability of rock or soil to allow flow through it.
Recharge Zone
An area of earths surface from which water percolates down into an aquifer.
Potable
Safe to drink
Pathogen
Organisms that cause illness or disease
Dam
Built to control a rivers flow
Reservoir
When a river is damned it forms an artificial lake which can also be called a reservoir.
Desalation
Process of removing salt from salt water.
Water Pollution
The introduction of chemical, physical, or biological agents into water that degrade water quality and harm the organisms that depend on the water.
Point-Source Pollution
Pollution from a single discharge source. (Factory, Wastewater treatment plant, leaking oil tanker)
