Nationalism
Loyalty and devotion to a nationality
Multinational State
State with 2 or more nationalities that agree to coexist peacefully.
Ex: USA, United Kingdom, Etc
Nation-State
State whose territory corresponds to that occupied by a particular ethnicity that has been transformed into a nationality
Apartheid
Physical seperation of different races into different geographic areas
Centripetal Force
An attitude that tends to unify people and enhance support of a state
Self Deteination
Concept that ethnicities have the right to govern themselves
Blockbusting
Buying a white person’s home from them at a cheap price and then selling the same house to a black person for a much greater price.
Ethnic Cleansing
A process in which a larger, more powerful ethnic group forcibly removes a less powerful one, to create an ethnically homogeneous region
Nationality
Identity with a group of people who share legal attachment and personal allegiance to a particular country.
Multi Ethnic State
State that contains more than one ethnicity
Race
Identity with a group of people who share a biological ancestor
Balkanization
Process where a state breaks down due to conflicting ethnic groups.
Ethnicity
Identity with a group of people who share the cultural traditions of a particular homeland/hearth
Your Mom
Term used when you can’t think of anything else to say. Usually funny, although some people find it offensive. It usually doesn’t make any sense.
Example:
Cassie: Yo whatchya doin Mel?
Melissa: YOUR MOM!!!
