Chapter 7 Flashcards
Purpose of the MDT
-Mandated by IDEIA so that the child and parents are guaranteed that any comprehensive evaluation be conducted by different professionals to decrease the possibility of subjective and discriminatory assessment.
Role of the MDT
-To work as a single unit in determining the possible cause, contributing behavioral factors, educational status, prognosis, and recommendations for a student with a suspected disability
What must be done to ensure the MDT complies with IDEA?
-Their findings are reviewed by another committee (eligibility committee, IEP committee, or committee on special education)
What are the objectives of an educational assessment?
- Help determine the child’s stronger and weaker academic skill areas, whether the child’s academic skills are suitable for a regular class, and help the teacher gear the materials to the learning capacity of the individual child
- Develop a learning profile that can help the classroom teacher understand the best way to present information to the child
- Use an achievement battery that covers enough skill areas to make an adequate diagnosis of academic strengths and weaknesses
What are the objectives of a psychological assessment?
- Determine the child’s present overall levels of intellectual ability, present verbal intellectual ability, non-language intellectual ability, and intellectual ability to deal with present grade-level academic demands
- Explore indications of greater potential and the influence of intellectual ability as a contributing factor to a child’s past and present school difficulties
- Find possible patterns of learning style
- Ascertain possible influences of tension and anxiety on testing results
