What are the three types of memory?
- Episodic - Flashbulb
- Semantic
- Implicit
/ Episodic and semantic are explicit or clearly stated /
Memory definition
The process by which we recollect prior experiences and information as well as skills learned in the past
Episodic memory
- memory of a specific event
- ex: what you ate for dinner, your hw, what you wore yesterday
Flashbulb memories
Memories of events that are important
Reasons why flashbulb memories are etched in mind
- Events that have special meaning for us
- Positive memories of events
- Events that make an impression on us
Semantic memory
- General knowledge that people remember
- ex: alphabet, numbers, presidents, songs, etc.
Explicit memory
Things that are clearly stated or explained
Implicit memory
- things that are not clearly stated
- consists of the skills or procedures you have learned
- ex: riding a bike, typing, skipping rope, playing a game, etc.
