Chapter 7 Flashcards
Infants basic emotions
They show and detect emotions in others.
Happiness, anger, surprise, fear, disgust, sadness.
We can describe what these mean
Subjective feeling, physiological changes, and overt behaviour
Subjective feeling
Describing your emotions, obviously infants cannot do that
Physiological change
Can detect changes in the brain, even in infants
Overt behaviour
Facial reactions, in infants as well. Don’t have a response to fear or anger until 4-6 months of age…until they turn mobile.
Complex emotions
Emerge at 1.5-2 years old.
Guilt, embarrassment, pride etc.
Need cognitive development in order to understand these.
At 6-7 months old
Infants can start to recognize facial expressions…such as coming home angry and upset after work. Infants often like to mimic these emotions, so then you will have an angry and upset baby.
