Clinical method
interview method using structured questions, but may alter questions based on interviews response; seeks to test specific hypothesis
Example: Clinical method is specialized for clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning within the field of mental health and healthcare.
Closed questions
questions with only a specific set of responses the responder can choose from.
Ex: Yes/no
Face to Face interview
Interview in which the interviewee and researcher talk together in each other’s presence.
Focus group
Group, often with common interest, meet to discuss issue in a collective interview.
Example: A smartphone producer organizes a focus group of costumers to gain a deeper understand of their experience.
Non-directive interview
Interview in which the interviewer remains non-directive and non-judgemental. Basically, just let the interviewee talk.
Open-ended questions
Type of interview/questionnaire item to which interviewees respond at length.
Panel
A stratified group who are consulted for opinion to be assessed.
Example: Apple wants feedback on the new line of MacBooks directly from the customers, so they assemble a panel to help them over a period of time.
Probe
General requests for further information, are used in semi-structured interviews. - Basically, tell me more…
Prompt
In a semi-structured interview, the prompt is a pre-set request or question that the interviewer has prepared in advance.
Example: past work experience, education etc…
Respondent
Person who is questioned in an interview or survey
self-report method
a general term for methods in which people willingly provide information about themselves
Semi-structured interview
interview with pre-set list of topics but in which an informal conversation tone is attempted and the interviewer “plays it by ear” as to whether sufficient information has been provided by the interviewee
Structured
questions are procedures are identical for everyone.
Survey
relatively structured questioning of large sample.
