Mandatory Reporting of Abuse

It is mandatory and legal to provide a report of any suspected abuse. It is better to provide a report and be wrong than to not report it at all.

Assessment for Intimate Partner Violence
A
Gathering of subjective data. Open-ended questions are particularly helpful. Interview separately if you suspect the perpetrator is with the patient. Be aware of state laws and requirements to report. (STaT and HITS questionnaires).

Important Components of Documentation for Abuse
A
Provide detail. Transcribe verbatim. Physical exam. Provide digital photographic documentation in the medical record (if consented).
