What are some of the items paid on a “per each” basis?
Inlets, manholes, junction boxes, prestressed concrete pole, test loads, delineators, steel mast arm assemblies, mailboxes and guardrail end treatments.
Where is it recommended to document “per each” items?
On the Final Measurement “Miscellaneous form or directly in the appropriate Pay Item Summary box.
What are some examples of items that are paid for on a lump sum basis?
Maintenance of traffic, removal of buildings, clearing and grubbing, removal of existing structures, special detours, buildings, toll plazas
Is there any measurement involved with lump sum items?
Ordinarily, no. The only question is whether the particular item was completed in accordance with the plans, specifications, and any special provisions.
While lump sum items don’t usually involve measurement, where can you find the details about the anticipated amount (like acres) and the location?
The Summary of Quantities sheet which will refer to the designers original quantities and the final pay quantity.
If the plans do no show an estimated plan quantity, can the item be adjusted without a supplemental agreement?
No.
How often are certified quantities paid?
Each month
What are the two factors for allowing contractors to certify their quanitities for some items?
Safety and time. Certified quantities tend not to be big money items.
Where should “per each” items be documented?
Field books, forms or on Pay Item Summary Sheets in the Final As-Built Plans
