What problems were associated with the articles of confederation?

A

Foreign problems -> Weak U.S and European relationship, constant threat. Unable to pay back loyalist debt and property.
Economic weakness -> Inter-state quarrels, limited credit, and reduced foreign trade meant widespread economic depression.
States placing tariffs on each other.

What was the Annapolis convention? (1786)

A

Basically, the event where the constitution was formed, as everyone wanted a strong national government. Only 5-6 states would send delegates.

What was Shay’s rebellion? (1786-87)

A

Farmers would close courts as a result of debt problems, people took note of how the articles of confederation were not working out.

A

3 branches of court would be established (legislative, judicial, executive,) and the electoral college (educated dudes) would pick the presidents.

What was the Great Compromise?

A

Two houses would be created, a house of representatives with representatives allocated by each state’s population, and a senate with two members from each state. It combined the Virginia (large state) plan and New Jersey (small state) plan.

A

The U.S population would tally 100% of the white population, and 60% of “others,” as they called it. Slavery would still be in the constitution and escape was illegal.
