Chapter 6: Plant Nutrition Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Process where plants make carbohydrates from raw materials using energy and light.
6CO₂+6H₂0 → C6H12O6 +6O₂
carbon dioxide + water → glucose + oxygen
→ = sunlight & chlorophyll
How plants use carbs
Releasing energy (respiration)
Storing
Sucrose for transport
Transverse section of leaf
check cb 104
Upper epidermis
waxy cuticle: prevent water loss
Palisade Mesophyll
Full of chloroplast and near the top: to store max chloroplasts: max sunlight
Spongy Mesophyll
Air spaces: for gases to diffuse
Lower epidermis
Stomata: holes that open during transpiration
Guard cell: Regulate water loss and controls stomata
Vascular bundle (transports)
Xylem: Water and mineral ions
Phloem: Sucrose and amino acids
Factors affecting photosynthesis
Supply of raw material
Amount of sunlight
Temperature
