Chapter 6: Instructing with Confidence Flashcards
Pareto’s Law
80% of effects are a result of just 20% of the causes. (80% of disruptions come from 20% of participants)
For learners who offer too much feedback
Ensure other participants have a chance to contribute: Everyone should contribute before anyone speaks twice.
For chit chat
Tell the group as a whole to keep side conversations to breaks. Then, be more direct or stop talking and wait for the participant to stop.
For those who bring up unrelated issues
Bring the conversation back to the learning objectives.
Rude Participants
Answer their questions. If continues, tell them they are welcome to the class but they cannot treat others poorly. In-person, ask if you have offended them. May need to remove them from the class.
For someone who comments after each participant
Ask the participant to allow others to speak without follow-up.
Regarding Phones
Request that they be silenced (not turned off or left out of classroom).
