Q

Describe inflammatory response as the second line of defence

A

When activated it prevents the body from harbouring further injury prevents injured tissues and promotes healing. It is a nonspecific response

Q

Describe acquired immunity as the third line of denfence

A

Uses memory to create a more specific response generally response is slower

Q

Describe the 3 steps to the inflammatory process

A

1.) Vasodialation occurs
2..) Increased vascular permeability
3.)White blood cell adherence to the inner walls of vessels

16
Q

Describe primary intention

A

Healing tthat occurs under conditions of minimal tissue loss

17
Q

Describe secondary intention

A

Healing that requires a great deal of tissue replacement epithalization, scare formation and contraction

18
Q

Describe the phases of wound healing

A

Phase 1: inflammation.. Coagulation occurs with the help of platelets neutrophils are triggered for wound healing and repair and macrophages follow after
Phase 2 After fibrin seals the wound scar tissue and normal tissues come. Following macrophages secrete TGF-b, angiogeneis factors and MMPs and granulation tissue to promote healing
Phase 3: Remodelling and maturation of scar tissue occurs
