Chapter 6 Inate immunity: Inflammation and Wound Healing Flashcards
What are the three lines of defenceq
1st Innate immunity
2nd Inflammatory Response
3rd Adaptive (Acquired immunity)
Describe innate immunity
The natural defences of the body that protects us from pathogens
Describe inflammatory response as the second line of defence
When activated it prevents the body from harbouring further injury prevents injured tissues and promotes healing. It is a nonspecific response
Describe acquired immunity as the third line of denfence
Uses memory to create a more specific response generally response is slower
What does lysozyme due
It attacks the cell wall of gram - bacteria. It is doubt ub sweat tears and salivao
Describe the 3 steps to the inflammatory process
1.) Vasodialation occurs
2..) Increased vascular permeability
3.)White blood cell adherence to the inner walls of vessels
What are the two types of cells involved with the inflammatory response
Mast Cells
Dendritic cells
What does mast cells do
Releases potent inducers of inflammation
What does basophils due
Same as mast cells it releases potent inducers of inflammation
What does histamine do
Causes muscle constriction increase capillary permeability and increases dilation of post capillary venules
What does leuoktrines do
Initiates histamine like effects by increasing vasucular permability and smooth muscle contraction
What does prostaglandins due
Causes increased vascular permeability and neutrophil chemotaxis (activation)
What does neutrophils do
Phagotizes first line basically a garbage picker
What do eosiophils do
Primary defence against parasites they help regulate vascular mediators related by mast cells
Basophils
Often associated with allergies and asthma
