What does this chapter refer to?

Bos indicus spp.
Generally, how much floor space should cattle have?
Sufficient to move above, minimum width and length at least equal to the length of the animal from the nose tip to tailhead when standing in normal, erect posture
Which group size requires the greatest number of space per animal?
Single housed animal requires the greatest amount of floor area on a per animal basis.
How often are cattle provided with supplemental feed typically observed? Unsupplemented cattle on open pasture?
Supplemented: 2-3x/weekly

How often should excreta be removed?
From enclosed laboratories at least once daily.
Describe standard cattle castration.
Normally no anesthesia. Least stressful when performed at or shortly after birth. Recommend between 2-3 months. Recommend tetanus toxin during castration.
Describe standard cattle dehorning.
Remove at birth or within the first month. Local anesthesia if >1 month. Polled breeds when possible.
How long does cattle parturition take?
30-60 minutes after presentation of feet, fetal membranes.
Where is Mycobacterium bovis test placed? When is it read?
Until tail, read up to 72h post-administration
What are the acceptable methods of cattle euthanasia? (3)
- IV administration of barbiturates
- Potassium chloride in conjunction with general anesthesia
- Penetrating captive bolt followed by exsanguination
