Literature review
Provide the background for the problem studied
- describes current knowledge or a practice problem, identifying the gaps in this knowledge base, explaining how the study being reported contributed to building knowledge in this area
Review of literature
Process of finding relevant research reports, critically appraising studies, and synthesizing the study results
Periodical
Such as a journal is published over time and is number sequentially for the years published
Monograph
Such as a book on a specific subject, record of conference proceedings, or a pamphlet
Empirical literature
In this context refers to knowledge derived from research . In other words the knowledge is based on data research (data-based)
Primary source
Written by the person who originated or is responsible for generating the ideas published
Secondary source
Summarizes or quotes content from primary sources –used only if primary sources cannot be located or provides creative ideas or a unique organization of information not found in a primary resource
Peer-reviewed
The author of the research report, clinical description, or theoretical explanation has submitted a manuscript to a journal editor, who identified scholars familiar with the topic to review the manuscript.
–has undergone significant scrutiny and is considered trustworthy
Seminal studies
Are the first studies on a particular topic that signaled the beginning of a new way of thinking on the topic (classical studies)
