and only walked at night. bent branches to hide in teepee style, covered themselves with leaves, hid in haystacks, hid in farmers potato hole storage - ate rotten potatoes when lucky, sometimes stayed with cowherds
others were in forest too
men, women, Russian soldiers but they did not stay together too risky
what happened to some of they crying hiding children
they were suffocated to protect the group
In 1943 the Germans killed a family for
helping Jews; after that sara had to stay in woods
sara believed
if there was a god maybe he helped her; but that her son was a good boy who did not cry also helped; he also tried o stay awake so that he was easier to carry
two weeks after the war ended
sara was still hiding. A Russian woman asked her why

mid November 1942 soviets launched a counterattack against
Germany’s sixth army. Some 250000 soldiers tried to win Stalingrad in hand to hand fighting; soviet troops encircled the germans. six weeks later Germany surrendered at stalingrad
soviets remained on offensive after Stalingrad
liberated Ukraine and virtually all of Russia
sara began to
walk back to Druysk; ran into a tailor who told him to stop at his uncle’s he was a Jew who would help
got to the tailor’s uncles house and he
wouldn’t even give the child bread. Chaim was 4.5 and had gotten used to sleeping outside and said let’s just go cover ourselves with branches; later she saw the man in Germany and he asked for forgiveness

Michel cypukk and his two daughters; her neighbors before deportation
sara kept travelling from place to place to get closer to druysk . her family was gone. she stayed there a little while and
bought and sold (referred to as “handled”) and stayed with 21 other survivors in a house.(including Michel)
Michel and another man used to do business together. Waited for son to go to sleep and sara went with this man. they went on a horse and were attacked by
Lithuanian Christians. Sara escaped. Man was killed. The Lithuanians were afraid that the Jews would identify them to the soviets as german collaborators. soviets were just as brutal! would shoot them or send them to Siberia.
After Michel business partner was murdered
sara and Michel moved and got married in 1945 Braslaw, Belarus
