Chapter 6 Flashcards
numerical measure of the outcome of a probably experiment - its value is determined by chance
random variable
random variable with either a finite or countable number of values - plotted on a line with space between each point
discrete random variable
random variable with an infinite number of values - plotted on a line in an uninterrupted fashion
continuous random variable
table/graph/formula that provides the possible values of a discrete random variable and their corresponding probabilities
probability distribution
mean of a random variable - represents what is expected to happen in the long run
expected value
discrete probability distribution that describes probabilities for experiments in which there are two mutually exclusive (disjoint) outcomes - success/failure
binomial probability distribution
each repetition of a binomial experiment
trial
branching diagram showing all possible outcomes of trials in a binomial experiment
tree diagram
