Chapter 5.5 Calorimetry Flashcards
1
Q
CALORIMETRY
A
The measurement of heat flow
2
Q
HEAT CAPACITY (C)
A
The heat capacity of an object is the amount of heat required to raise its temperature by 1 degree K ( or 1degree C).
The TEMPERATURE CHANGE experienced by an object when it absorbs a certain amount of heat is determined by its heat capacity (C)
The grater the heat capacity , the greater the heat required to produce a given temperature
3
Q
MOLAR HEAT CAPACITY (Cm)
A
The heat capacity of one mole of a substance
4
Q
SPECIFIC HEAT (Cs)
A
The heat capacity in one gram of a substance.
. It is the amount of heat per unit mass required to to raise the temperature by one degree.
5
Q
how is SPECIFIC HEAT determined
A
by measuring the temperature change
