A life threatening sensitivity to an antigen- symptoms include sweating, short breath, irregular pulse, respiratory congestion, low BP, and dyspnea
Cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)
The heart stops suddenly without warning
Convulsing or seizure
Violent sudden contractions or tremors of muscle groups.
Fainting
The sudden loss of consciousness from an inadequate blood supply to the brain
First aid
Emergency care given to an ill or injured person before medical help arrives
Hemorrhage
The excessive loss of blood in a short time
Respiratory arrest
Breathing stops but heart action continues for several minutes; causes include drowning, stroke, choking, suffocation, coma, heart attack, smoke inhalation
Shock
Results when tissues and organs do not get enough blood symptoms include low bp, rapid respiration, thirst, restlessness, cold & moist skin, paleness, low pulse. Keep this person lying down and open airway
Epilepsy
nerve cells signal abnormally, can be caused by poor nutrition, tumors, infection, stroke, etc.
Partial seizure
one part of brain involved
Generalized tonic-clonic seizure
person loses consciousness then the muscles contract
Generalized absence seizure
loss of contentious and twitching of eyelids and staring
Superficial burn
epidermis only
partial thickness burn
epidermis and part of the dermis. Nerve endings exposed.
full thickness burn
entire epidermis and dermis. not painful because nerve endings are destroyed
