Chapter 5 - Light Energy Flashcards
Transverse Wave
a wave in which the vibrating element moves in a direction perpendicular to the direction of advance of the wave.
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Made up of the types of electro magnetic radiation. The higher the frequency, the more energy. Radio, microwaves, infrared, visible, UV, xray, and gamma rays.
Visible Spectrum
Splitting of white light into colours is called dispersion. (red lowest with energy, and purple highest.)
Absorption
An object will absorb whatever color it isn’t, and will reflect whatever color it is.
Reflection
Light is reflected off at the same angle as it hits the surface at.
Convex Mirrors
Bulge outwards and show small images in a wide view.
Concave mirrors
Cave inwards and magnify objects at a close distance.
Refraction
light slows down when passing through glass, causing it to bend.
Convex lens
buldge in the centre and bends light together , magnifying objects. Long sighted
Concave lens
dip inwards, spreads light apart, allowing it to be viewed on a larger scale. Short sighted
