Mechanical digestion - teeth to grind food
Chemical digestion - Saliva contains Enzymes that digests carbs into glucose
Oesophagus
Peristalsis - muscles push down bolus (food)
Epiglottis - prevents food into lungs
Sphincter - ring to open stomach
Stomach
Mechanical - muscles churn food
Chemical -digestive juices break down protein into amino acids
duodenum
Mechanical - churns food
Chemical - digestive enzymes from liver and pancreas are secreted
Liver
Produces bile which is stored in the gallbladder, helps with breaking down fats into fatty acids
Pancreas
secretes pancreatic juices, helps digests fats sugar and protein
ileum
End of small intestine that absorbs fatty acids, amino acids and glucose. Has villi to increase surface area and absorption
Large intestine
Absorbs water into blood, leaving behind solids.
Vomit
infection trigger body to vomit from the stomach
