Immanent Trinity
A focus on the inner life of God as a Trinity of three divine persons without consideration of God’s relationship to human beings or his creation work.
Theology
The study of the existence or attributes of God.
Salvific Trinity
The active and inseparable work of the Triune God in Salvation History.
Consubstantial
The quality of one being in the relationship between all the Divine Persons of the Trinity.
Divine missions of the blessed Trinity
The distinctive works of God’s saving intervention in the world. Creation, Salvation, and Sanctification.
Saint
A holy one of God who lives in union with God through the grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit and whom God rewards with eternal life in Heaven.
Assumption
The dogmatic teaching of the Catholic Church that when the early life of Mary was completed, she was taken body and soul into the presence of God.
Immaculate Conception
The dogmatic teaching of the Catholic Church that Mary was conceived in the womb of her mother without the stain of Original Sin that all other human beings inherit.
Theotokos
A Greek term for Mary meaning God Bearer or birth mother of God that was first used by the Council of Ephesus in 431 AD.
Infallible Teaching
Catholic teachings, proposed by the Magisterium in union with the Pope, that are declared to be free of error.
Paraclete
Another name for the Holy Spirit that means advocate, defender, or consoler.
Grace
God’s gift of friendship and life that enables us to share his life and love.
Justification
The forgiving of our sins in order to welcome us into a right relationship with God through our faith in Jesus Christ.
Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Seven spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit given to the Church and her members.
Charism
A spiritual gift given by God to individuals too help strengthen the Church and build it up.
