Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph
What do we think of the patriarchs and matriarchs
- as our family

These ancestors in faith are what?
A good example of reliance on God during our own journey through life. Because of the gift of faith we are able to believe all that God has revealed to us and to respond positively to it.
What does faith do?
Helps us to freely say yes to God with all our heart and strength. By our yes we follow God’s will for us.
Through the gift of what we what?
The gift of faith we begin to see our lives and the world around us as God sees them. We start to live the way God wants us to live.
As soon as Abram heard God’s call, he and his wife, Sarai what?
Gathered their family and property
Sarai and Abram started a journey from Mesopotamia to Canaan. This journey symbolized what?
The journey of faith that we make throughout our lives.
When God spoke to him, Abram what?
- He responded to God.
- He did not argue with God.
- He had great faith and trusted completely in God’s will.
When Abram and Sarai arrive at Canaan, God tested them repeatedly. This testing by God what?
Strengthened and purified their faith, and God decided to make a covenant with Abram.
Abraham showed his great what?
He showed his great faith in God, and God blessed him.
This example from Abraham’s life shows us what?
It shows us that God calls each of us to trust completely in him. We see the Old Testament stories that God loved his people and wanted them to turn to him.
Jacob never what?
Jacob never gave up.
God assured Jacob what?
That he would inherit Canaan and that God would always protect him.
The biblical writer was telling us what?
That God’s people were blessed and that they would continue to grow in number.
