What three things lead to individualism being strong in the colonies?
- Great Britain treated the colonies with salutary neglect.
- The colonies made their own laws and acted independently from GB.
- Land was cheapee than in Europe and there were more landowners in the colonies than in England.
Why did England place a number of taxes (acts) against the colonists?
During the F&I War, England became in debt and they began to tax the colonists to pay it off
What is importing or exporting without paying proper taxes on goods? (Also GB’s top priority in the colonies at this time)
Smuggling
How was the Sugar Act supposed to stop smuggling?
Lowered the tax on molasses to try and convince people to stop smuggling in 1764

Placed a tax on almost all printed materials. Could not be sold without a stamp from Bristish officials

Was a secret society formed to protect the rights of the colonists and fight taxation by the by the British.

Stated that England had the right to tax the colonies in all cases

Imported goods before they even come to the colonies

To house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies
