Hieroglyphics
The Egyptian writing system which used symbols to represent sounds
One of the worlds first writing systems
Papyrus
A long-lasting paper like material made from reeds
They wrote on it
Rosetta Stone
A stone slab inscribed with hieroglyphics
It also had writing in Greek and a later form of Egyptian. This helped historians understand what the hieroglyphics meant
Sphinxes
Imaginary creatures with the bodies of lions and the heads of other animals or humans
Usually found at the entrance of the temples
Obelisk
A tall 4-sided pillar that is pointed on top
King Tutankhamen (King Tut)
His tomb was found in 1922 and was filled with many treasures
How were Egyptian temples decorated?
The temple walls and columns were covered with paintings and hieroglyphics. Statues of gods and pharaohs stood along the walls
