A series of wars that Rome fought against Carthage ( a city in Northern Italy)
Why did the Romans decide to conquer all of Italy?
Many of Rome’s neighboring cities tried to attack Rome so Rome fought in response to the threats
How did the growth of territory help increase Roman trade?
Rome’s farmers couldn’t grow enough food to support the increasing population so merchants brought food from other Parts of the Mediterranean. They also brought metal goods and slaves to Rome
What led to the beginning of the Punic Wars?
The wars began when Carthage tried to take over the island of Sicily, an island southwest of Italy
Who was Spartacus?
A former gladiator who led thousands of slaves who rose up and demanded freedom from the Romans
What new places did Rome add to its empire?
Sicily, Corsica, Spain, North Africa, Greece, and parts of Asia
