Chapter 4 - measuring behaviors Flashcards
3 Functional Properties
Repeatability, Temporal Extent, Temporal Locus
Repeatability
AKA - Countability
Can occur repeatedly through time
Count
Rate
Temporal Extent
Every instance of behavior occurs during some amount of time
Duration
Appropriate for bxs that occur at very high rates
Temporal Locus
Every instance of behavior occurs at a certain point in time with respect to other events
IRT
Latency
Free Operant
Clear beginning and end
Can be emitted at any time
Celeration
A measure of how rates of response change over time
IRT
Inter-response time - the amount of time that elapses between two consecutive instances of a response class
Latency
The time between onset of a stimulus and the initiation of a subsequent response
Derivative Measures
Percentage of occurrence
Trials to Criterion
Percentage of occurrence
Number of correct across number of opportunities
30 trials
Trials to criterion
Measure of response opportunities needed to achieve a predetermined level of performance
Definitional Measures
Topography
Magnitude
Topography
Physical form or shape of a behavior
Magnitude
force or intensity with which a response is emitted
Event Recording
variety of procedures for detecting the # of times a behavior occurs
