Chapter 4- Basic Valves System Of The Human Heart Flashcards
What is the other name of the right AV valve ?
The tricuspid valve (3 cusps of tissue)
What are the 2 pairs of valves in the heart ?
The atrioventricular valves (AV valves) and the semi-lunar valves (SL valves)
What is the other name of the left AV valve ?
The mitral valve ( 2 cusps)
When the ventricle contract forcing blood against AV valve cusps, what happen to the AV valve ?
AV valve closes
When AV valve closes how is the pressure in the atrium ?
When the AV valve closes the pressure in the atrium is less than in the ventricle
When AV valve opens, how is the pressure in the ventricle ?
When AV valve open the pressure in the ventricle is less than the pressure in the atrium
What is the valve at the entry of the pulmonary tronc ?
The pulmonary semi-lunar valve ( pulmonic valve)
What is the valve at the opening into the aorta ?
The aortic semi lunar valve ( aortic valve)
Why SL valves are called “semi- lunar” ?
They get their name because the cusps of the valves have a “half moon” shape when the cusps are closed
SL valves open or close when ventricles contract?
When ventricles contract and pressure in ventricles rise SL valves open. Blood is pushed up against SL valves forcing them to open.
SL valves open or close when ventricles relax ?
The SL valves close when ventricles relax and pressure falls in the ventricles. Blood flows backs from arteries filling the cusps of SL valves forcing them to close.
When atria and ventricles are relaxed, how are AV and SL valves ?
AV valves are open and SL valves are closed
When the heart is relaxed, blood will come back to the right atrium through which vessel ?
Superior vena cava, Inferior vena cava and coronary sinus
When the heart is relaxed, blood will come back to the left atrium through which vessel ?
The pulmonary veins
When the ventricles contract, what is the first change of valves mouvements ?
When ventricles contract AV valves close.
