What is the first portion of the conduction system of the heart ?
The sino atrial node (SA node) is refered as the first part of the conduction system
Is the atrial syncitium considered as a unit fonction for the atria ?
Yes, similarly the ventricles have a distinct ventricular syncitium. That is why atria contraction is followed by ventricles contraction ( systole) followed then by a relaxation of the heart (diastole).
Where is located the SA node ?
The SA node is located in the right atria, it can generate an electrical signal more rapidly
What is the second portion of the conduction system in the heart ?
The Atrioventricular Node (AV node) is located near the junction between the atria and ventricles
Does the AV node spread the electrical signal immediatly ?
No the AV node slightly delays it : 0,1 second
What is the only electrical connection between the atria and the ventricles ?
The Atrioventricular bundle (the AV bundle) : it enables the very coordinated type of pumping action of the heart (atria contract, then only after ventricles contract) connecting the atrial syncitium with the ventricular syncitium
What conduct the impulses through the inter ventricular septum ?
The bundle branches : the right and left branches going through the inter ventricular septum down to the apex of the heart
What are forming the bundle branches at the apex of the heart ?
The branches form the Purkinje fibers
What is the role of the Purkinje fibres ?
The Purkinje fibres or subendocardial conducting network depolarise the contractile cells of both ventricles
