Chapter 4 Flashcards
Explain/describe diffrences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Prokaryotic: DNA is located in nucleoid, smaller, lack membrane bound organelles, cell walls made from peptidoglycan, Bacteria and archea.
Eukaryotic cells: DNA is located in well defined nucleous, larger, contain membrane bound organelles, some have cell walls,( Animals, plants, fungi, and protists
Explain/ describe diffrences between plant and animal cells
Plant: Cell wall, box like shape, contains chloroplast, Large centeral vacuole.
Animal: No cell wall, round or oval, no chloroplast, smaller vacuoles.
rough endoplasmic reticulum
Protien synthesis and modification
smooth endoplasmic reticulum
synthesis of membrane lipids, calcium storage, and detoxification of foreign substances
Golgi apparatus
synthesis of cell wall components, packaging and distribution of materials to diffrent parts of the cell
Lysosomes
Contain enzymes for breaking down waste materials and cellular debris
Vacuoles
Storage
Mitochondria
ATP (energy) production
Chloroplast
Photosynthesis
Cytoskeleton
shape of cell, keeps organelles fixed, helps move materials into cell
Cell movement
Flagella, cilia, myosin
