Acceptable Use Policy:
Set of rules specifying the legal and ethical use of a system and the consequences of noncompliance.
Accountability:
Issues involving both the user’s and the organization’s responsibilities and liabilities.
Nonrepudiation:
Method for binding all the parties to a contract.
Cookies:
o Small text files with unique ID tags that are embedded in a web browser and saved on the user’s hard drive.
o Help websites customize pages for users
o Considered an invasion of privacy when user’s information is used without prior consent.
o Installing a cookie manager helps users disable cookies
Log Files:

- Generated by web server software, record a user’s actions on a website
- Helpful because they can help tech support diagnose a problem
- Log files can be a problem if they can get you fired (savvy department)
Intellectual Property:

Legal umbrella covering protections that involve copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and patents developed by people or businesses.
- Industrial Property.
• Inventions, trademarks, logos, and industrial designs - Copyrighted Material.
• Computer programs, songs - Trademark.
• Protects product names and identifying marks - Patent
• Protects inventions and new processes
Cybersquatting:
o Registering, selling, or using a domain name to profit from someone else’s trademark.
Typo squatting:
o Relies on typographical errors made by web users when typing a website address into a web browser (ex. Goggle.com vs. Google.com).
The Digital Divide
o Computers still are not affordable for many people
o Companies installing cables for Internet connections might subject their communities to a type of economic “red-lining”
o Children are often victims of this divide
o Can improve by Increase funding for computers at schools and libraries & loaner programs
The Second Digital Divide:
o lack of social media/Internet presence
What are some of the effects of consequences of both digital divides? Employment, education, getting information
Employers may not want to hire someone who does not have basic knowledge of computers and the second digital divide makes it harder for company to see who a person is online
Virtual Organization Model:
o Networks of independent companies, suppliers, customers, and manufacturers.
