Management Support Systems (MSSs)
- Different types of information systems have been developed to support certain aspects and types of decisions
- Each type is designed with unique goals and objectives
Decision Support Systems (DSS):
interactive information system designed to assist decision makers in an organization.

4 phases of decision making process
- intelligence phase
- decision maker examines the organization environment for conditions that need decsisons and collect data to be processed
- find issues - design phase
- define critera for decisions
- use smart goals - choice phase
- choose the best option - implementation phase
- create effective plan
- get the resource to implement plan
Executive Information Systems (EIS)
- Branch of DSS’s that are tailored to management’s information needs
- Give executives easy access to internal and external data
- Typically include: “Drill-down” features and Digital dashboard. Ease of use is critical.
Understand the reasons for using an EIS
Provides managers with analytical and decision-making tools
Includes graphical representations of data that helps executives make critical decisions
Used by executives to share information with others quickly and easily
Used by managers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of decision making
Increase managers’ productivity
Convert information into other formats
Spot trends and report exceptions
Group Support Systems (GSS)
- Assist decision makers working in groups

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Captures, stores, processes, and displays geographic information
