Describe Reoviridae (Rotavirus)

A

double layered capsid (some properties of enveloped virus during replication, but really a naked capsid), segments of ds RNA, it is symptomatic in children, but usually not adults.

How is the rotavirus created

A

By genetic reassortment: causes nonhuman rotavirus strains to express human rotavirus antigens on their surface.

A

1) RotaTeq- Live oral vaccine, contains 5 reassortant rotavirus.
2) Rotarix- Love oral vaccine, monovalent, live attenuated human vaccine strand.

linear positive sense sing stranded RNA. Not developed.

Describe the symptoms and treatment of Norovirus

A

contagious and usually food borne. short incubation period of 12-48 hours and usually lasts 24-60 hours. causes watery non bloody diarrhea. treatment is just to rehydrate.
