what is primary pulmonary hypertension
high bp in lungs idiopathic arterial HTN, constriction of blood vessels in the lungs, and increased pressure in pulmonary artery
what is Marfan syndrome
affects eyes, hearts, blood vessel , bones, tall and thin, long arms, hands, fingers and toes, dilation of aortic root, becomes very weak because of connective tissue disorder, can have rupture of aortic root
what is eisenmenger syndrome
complication of heart defect , congenital, causes a shunt to develop between two chambers of heart, affect circulation within heart and lungs , increased blood flow to lungs instead of to rest of body leading to increase pressure in vessels in the lungs
what is peripartum cardiomyopathy
weakness of heart muscles that begin during final month of pregnancy through about 5 months postpartum without any other known cause, most commonly occurs right after delivery
how is CPR performed in a pregnant woman
slight tilt , can’t have them flat
compressions performed higher up due to displacement
defibrillator paddles must be placed one rib space higher
what are complications of CPR
Lacerations of liver or spleen
Fracture of sternum or ribs
If CPR is not effective within 4 to 5 minutes, consider perimortem cesarean birth.

what is pruritis gravidarum
itching in pregnancy
Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP)
caused by pregnancy , no treatment other than comfort, can randomly go away or will go away after pregnancy
comfort measures for PUPPs rash
Antihistamine creams, hydralazine, cool compresses, cool showers/bath, oatmeal baths
cholelithiasis and cholecystitis
more common in pregnancy, surgical intervention if needed, low fat diet
what urinary issues are more common in pregnancy
UTI, pyelonephritis , hydronephrosis
what is the most common surgery in pregnancy
appendicitis
what is important to monitor for with trauma the occurs during pregnancy ?
Bleeding for mom, take care of mom first, need mom to have baby
Rule out abruption, ultrasound, monitor baby, monitor for contractions, minimum 4 hrs of monitoring, indirect coombs test, rhogam if mom is rh negative
