Chapter 3 Vocab Flashcards
Air Resistance
A friction-like force, opposes the motion of objects that move through the air
Centripetal Force
The net force exerted toward the center of a curved path
Friction
The force that opposes the sliding motion of two surfaces that are touching each other
Gravity
Attractive force between two objects that depends on the masses of the objects and the distance between them
Momentum
property of a moving object that equals its mass times its velocity
Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
States that acceleration of an object is in the same direction as the net force of an object, and that the the acceleration equals the net force divided by mass F=MA
Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
States that when one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts a force on the first object that is equal in strength and in the opposite direction
Terminal velocity
The highest speed a falling object will reach
Projectile
Anything that’s thrown or shot through the air, Earth’s gravity causes projectiles to follow a curved path
Weight
Gravitational force exerted on an object
