Action Center
A group of MMC consoles that are used to manage Windows 7.Computer Management, Event Viewer, and Services are the most commonly used.
Administrative Tools
The current standard for powermanagement that is implemented in Windows 7 and by computer manufacturers.
Advanced Confi guration and Power Interface (ACPI)
A visual effect that is part of the Aero look-and-feel of Windows 7. Manygraphical elements have a semitransparent appearance to allow users to see other windowsunder the active one. This is done to allow the user a better feel for what other applications aredoing in the background without being too distracting
Aero Glass
A tool or utility in Control Panel that is focused on confi guring a particular part ofWindows 7.
applet
Automatically performs a confi gurable action when new removable media is insertedinto the computer.
AutoPlay
An instant-on power saving mode that keeps the system in the S0 state.
Away Mode
Recovery tools for fi les and the overall operating system. Backup andSystem Restore can be found here.
Backup and Restore
A Control Panel applet that is used to confi gure biometric devicesand the authentication data associated with them.
Biometric Devices applet
Encrypts all of the data on a hard drive to keep data secure even ifa hard drive is stolen.
BitLocker Drive Encryption
The number of bits that are used to store the color information for each pixel inthe display.
color depth
One of the most commonly used Administrative tools. This MMCconsole contains the snap-ins to manage most Windows 7 components.
Computer Management
A central location for Windows 7 Management utilities. Most system settingsare confi gured here.
Control Panel
Used to confi gure data sources for applications that require access to adatabase.
Data Sources (ODBC)
Software that manages the communication between Windows 7 and a particularhardware component
device driver
A system that ensures that a device driver is from a known publisherand that the device driver has not been modifi ed since it was signed.
device driver signing
An MMC snap-in that is used to manage hardware components and theirdevice drivers.
Device Manager
A Control Panel applet that gives you links to adjust the screen resolution,calibrate color, change display settings, adjust ClearType text, and set a custom text size
Display applet
A central location in Windows 7 where drivers are located before they areinstalled. A large set of drivers is included with Windows 7.
driver store
A collection of settings to make Windows 7 easier to use forthose that have visual or hearing impairment.
Ease of Access Center applet
An MMC console that is used to view messages generated and logged byWindows 7, applications, and services.
Event Viewer
A utility that verifi es the digital signature on operatingsystem fi les and device drivers.
File Signature Verifi cation utility
Confi gures the behavior of Windows Explorer, including whether fi leextensions are hidden for known fi le types, and whether hidden fi les are displayed.

A new feature in Windows 7 that is used to confi gure fi le and printer sharing forsmall peer-to-peer computer networks.
