What does smoking cause? Is it preventable?
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Australia and is largely preventable as it is linked directly back to tobacco smoking.
What is tobacco smoking caused by?
Lack of education about risks, lack of access to health care, stress, anxiety, and depression.
What does smoking increase burden of disease in?
Conditions such as cardiovascular disease; lung, nose, mouth, throat, and kidney cancers; respiratory conditions and atherosclerosis
Is alcohol a major risk factor for morbidity and mortality?
Yes
What can excessive alcohol consumption do?
Increases burden of disease for conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and some cancers.
Increases the risk of injuries, drowning, and violence while under the influence
