A mission statement is the driving force for that organization, providing a focus for its energy & resources.
How goals differ from objectives & work plans? From policies & procedures?
GOALS are broad, general, desired outcomes. OBJECTIVES are specific, measurable ways to accomplish the goal. WORK PLANS are precise activities that contribute to accomplishing objectives. POLICIES and PROCEDURES specify how the activities are to be carried out.
What the relationship between Collins flywheel challenge and doom loop is?
Flywheel challenge encourages all within an organization to focus on priority goals. On contrast, the doom loop seems management as unfocused, inconsistent & following fads.
What typical levels of management exists in law enforcement?
Management typically has 3 levels:
•first line level: sergeants, first line supervisors
•middle level: captains, lieutenants
•top level: chief, sheriff

Which transition from one management level to another is usually the most difficult? Why?
The transition to first-line supervisor is one of the most difficult in law enforcement, for this is when new supervisors begin to make decisions that separate them from their fellow officers.

Acting in a managerial capacity, law enforcement executives serve as :

- facilitators

How strategic and tactical planning differ ?
Tactical planning is short term planning.
Strategic planning is long term planning.
With whom law enforcement executives typically interact?
Interact with politicians, community groups, the media & executive of other law enforcement organizations as well as individuals and groups within the agency itself.
