Chapter 3 Microscope Flashcards
is a tool that allows the viewer to see objects too small to be seen by the naked eye
Compound Microscope
visual clarity, to enable tiny objects to be studied
Resolution
supportive bottom piece of microscope
Base
a light source within the base that illuminates the specimen
Substage light
a dial, adjusts the light intensity
Rheostat
the upper part containing the components used to view the specimen
Head
two removable lenses that you look through to observe the specimen, have 10x magnification
Ocular Lenses
located below the ocular lenses, serves as an attachment for the objective lenses, can be rotated
Nosepiece
four lenses attached to the nosepiece
Objective Lenses
what are the 4 magnification in objective lense
Scanning Lens 4x
Low power Lens 10x
High dry Lens 40x
Oil immersion Lens 100x
narrow, vertical part connecting the head and base
Arm
the flat platform connected to the arm and suspended beneath the objective lenses
Stage
when a slide is placed on the stage, it held in place
stage clips or mechanical stage
move the mechanical stage right and left and front to back
mechanical stage adjustment knobs
large knobs on the arm, turning this knob will raise and lower the stage
**should only be used with the SCANNING LENS or LOW POWER LENS to avoid contact between the objective lens and the microscope slide
Coarse Adjustment Knobs
