Chapter 3- Learning And Memory Flashcards
Preparedness
Predisposition to do something that will be rewarding
Instinctive drift
Difficulty in learning new behaviors that are conflicting to their natural/instinctive behaviors
Latent learning
Learning that occurs without a reward but that’s spontaneously demonstrated once a reward is introduced
Spacing effect
Longer amount of time between sessions of relearning then the greater retention of info later on
State dependent memory
Mental state can affect recall (chewing same gum while studying and while taking the test) —internal state rather than external
Misinformation effect
How questions are stated or other memories could affect/change memory recall
3 modes information can be encoded from strongest to weakest
- Semantic
- Acoustic
- Visual
What is the result of a fixed interval schedule?
Almost no response immediately after the reward is given, but the behavior increases as the rat gets close to receiving the reward
3 main processes of memory
- Encoding
- Storage
- Retrieval
