Chapter 2- Sensation And Perception Flashcards
How does the eye get its nutrients?
- Choroidal vessels- blood vessels between sclera and retina
- Retinal vessels
Iris (colored part of eye) has two muscles. Explain.
- Dilator pupillae- opens pupil (sympathetic stimulation)
2. Constrictor pupillae- constricts pupil (parasympathetic stimulation)
Cornea
Gathers and focuses the incoming light
Pupil
Allows passage of light from anterior to posterior chamber
Iris
Controls size of pupil
Ciliary body (eye)
Produces aqueous humor, accommodation of lens
Canal of schlemm
Drains aqueous humor
Lens
Refracts incoming light to focus it on the retina
Retina
Detects image
Sclera
Provides structural support and is part of eye exposed to air
Tympanic membrane
Ear drum. Vibrates in phase with incoming sound waves
Eustachian tube
Connects middle ear to nasal cavity (equalizes pressure)
Superior olive
Localizes sound
5 types of tactile receptors
- Pacinian corpuscles
- Meissner corpuscles
- Merkle disks
- Ruffini endings
- Free nerve endings
Pacinian corpuscles
Deep pressure and vibration
