Q

Why does an Ionic Compound have high Melting❄️ and Boiling point?

A

Forces of attraction between the oppositely charged ions in ionic compounds are so strong that large quantities of heat energy must be supplied to disrupt the crystal lattice and separate ions.

Q

Why are Ionic Compounds Hard and Brittle?

A

The compound is already held rigidly in place in a lattice due to the strong electrostatic attraction in between the cations and anions as well as the repulsion of the like charges. = shatters

Q

Why are Ionic Compounds good conductors in the liquid

A

In the solid state ions are in fixed positions and in the molten form the lattice is broken and the - and + ions act as mobile charged carriers therefore, they are free to move to conduct electricity.
