Chapter 3-for exam 2 Flashcards
what are the 2 categories of the Fore brain.
The cortex and the sub cortex
The cortex
Contains the lobes of the brain
The subcortex
Contains the Thalamus and the limbic system
The thamalus
known as the relay section of the brain, relays all incoming sensory information
The limbic system
The Hypothalamus, Amygala, Hippocampus. basic areas of survival
Hypothamalus
plays a role in homeostatic activity - hunger, thirst, sexual drive, emotion regulation
Hippocampus
Plays a role in memory functions - plays together with the Amygdala
Amygdala
Plays a role in our fear response - assigns emotional significance to everything
What are the lobes of the brain?
Frontal lobe, Temporal lobe, Occipital lobe , and The parietal lobe
Occipital lobe
Located in the back of your brain and controls visual processing
The temporal lobe
Contains the auditory cortex - process what your hear - Wernicks area
The parietal lobe
Contains the somatosensory cortex - controls pressure, temperature and pain
The frontal lobe
sits in the front of your brain and starts where you motor cortex is - controls movement
